Jack started his junior career as a forward, representing the Diamond Creek Football Club – an Australian rules football club located in Diamond Creek, a northeastern suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The club competed in The Northern Football Netball League (later known as the Northern Football League) which regulates competitions of both Australian rules football and netball in and around the Diamond Creek region.
He also turned out for the Northern Under-18 (now known as the Northern Knights; an Australian rules football club based in Preston, a suburb of Melbourne) in the TAC Cup (now known as the Talent League, an under-19 Australian rules football representative competition that is based on geographic regions throughout country Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne).
It was while playing for the Northern Under-18 that Jack was scouted by the Melbourne-based Collingwood Football Club (one of Australia’s most popular and successful sports clubs) who picked him up as the 37th selection of the 2005 AFL (Australian Football League) Draft.
He suffered a serious neck injury during the 2007 pre-season despite which he managed to make a successful return to competitive football in 2008. During the 2008 AFL season, he kicked 25 goals in 12 games and scored at an accuracy of 80.6% – the best by any player in the competition with 25 or more goals.
In the 2009 AFL season, Jack was Collingwood Football Club‘s leading goalkicker with 50 goals in 24 games. He was ranked 11th in the AFL for total goals that season and 16th in goals contributed per game.
He kicked a crucial goal (in the last 20 seconds) of Collingwood Football Club‘s semi-final game of the 2009 AFL season – against the Adelaide Football Club to earn his team a thrilling victory by 5 points (83-78). Unfortunately, Collingwood Football Club was defeated by eventual and 8th-time champions Geelong Football Club in the following week in the preliminary final.
After a poor 2010 AFL season, Jack left Collingwood Football Club and opted to put his name in the pre-season section of the 2011 AFL Draft that was held in December 2010. Between 2008 and 2010, he had appeared in 43 games and scored 80 goals for the Collingwood Football Club.
He was selected 6th overall by Fremantle Football Club (based in Fremantle, a port city in the state of Western Australia) in the aforementioned draft. Between 2011 and 2012, he appeared in 8 games and scored 3 goals for the Fremantle Football Club.
The lack of opportunities and a lack of form meant that Jack had to leave Fremantle Football Club after the 2012 season. To revive his dwindling AFL career, he joined the Northern Bullants (based in Preston, a suburb of Melbourne) to compete in the 2014 season of the Victorian Football League, an Australian rules football competition operated by the AFL (Australian Football League) as a 2nd-tier, regional, semi-professional competition.
At the end of the 2014 season, Jack was signed up by the Southport Sharks (based in Gold Coast, a coastal city and region in the state of Queensland) to play in the 2015 season of the NEAFL (North East Australian Football League, a now-defunct Australian rules football league that worked as a 2nd division league, sitting below the AFL). The league operated between 2011 and 2019 and the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It amalgamated into the Victorian Football League in 2021.
In early June 2016, while representing the Southport Sharks, Jack was involved in a collision and had to be stretchered off the ground with a suspected neck injury.
In 2018, nearing the end of his playing career, he joined the Palm Beach Currumbin Australian Football Club (also based in Gold Coast, Queensland) to compete in the 2018 season of the SEQAFL (South East Queensland Australian Football League, the premier semi-professional Australian rules football competition in the southeastern region of the state of Queensland). In his first match with the club, Jack kicked 5 goals and helped his team defeat its 2017 grand-final rival – Labrador Australian Football Club.
